It's time update to the new gaming Chromebook with extra RGB for you to make your gaming experience much better. A feature flag for enabling RGB keyboard support appeared in Chrome OS, 9to5Google reports. The description of the flag is quite simple: “Enable RGB Keyboard support on supported devices.

According to the resource 9to5Google, references to devices with a keyboard with a multicolour RGB backlight appeared in the Chrome OS code. Windows gaming laptops are now equipped with such a keyboard.

several code names for Chromebooks with keyboards have already been spotted: Taniks, Vell, Ripple. The first two devices get the new 12th gen Intel Core processor from the Alder Lake Platform.

According to the source the first two devices Tankis and Ripple are coming from Quanta which has designed Chromebooks for other brands, while it appears the third device could be launched from HP under the OMEN brand.

The Taniks device, in turn, may be released by the Chinese Lenovo. In this case, the portable computer will most likely join the Legion family of products.

As with Ripple, this name hides a detachable RGB keyboard that can become part of a hybrid Chromebook that turns into a tablet. Further details are not yet available.

Google has expressed a desire to get Steam running on Chromebooks, and Valve’s Proton compatibility layer for Steam makes it possible for many Windows games to run on Linux machines. Since Chrome OS has some Linux compatibility, it may be in the cards for Proton to get up and running on Google’s operating system.

The timing for gaming Chromebooks is ripe, as the integrated graphics on many recent CPUs are proving more than up to the task of a lot of gaming scenarios, letting Chromebooks get away with a lack of dedicated graphics processors. And we’ve also seen chips made for Chromebooks playing nicely with Nvidia graphics processors.

We can expect an announcement on the development from Google soon. Though the dedicated Chromebooks may be a while away, Steam support on existing devices may come as the first public indication of Google's efforts. All in due time.
